The Model

Coaching was founded and has been developed around the GROW model with which all coaches are familiar as it provides the basis of coaching practice. The coach walks alongside the client and becomes what has been well described as ‘the guide on the side, not the sage on the stage’.

The Trans Form Coaching model also uses GROW as a basis but rather than adapting it in a horizontal way (extending or adapting the acronym) it encourages the development of skills in a vertical way (adding a new dimension).

We live in a world of ‘form’ - of that which we can see, prove and create. The word ‘trans’ implies crossing a threshold, so when you Trans Form you literally move into the formless...the source behind all things which can only be recognised by inner experience; feeling, knowing, or a response of the heart.

The idea behind the Trans Form Coaching approach is to take coaching into new territory by exploring what happens when you develop the basic ideas from the perspective of formlessness…in other words to look at coaching from a different place. Extending the theatre metaphor above the coach recognises that the production looks and feels different when moving from being the guide on the side of the stage to being in the front stalls.

Immediately you change perspective (or take a seat) something else interesting happens. A new dimension arises which is the interaction between form and formlessness. So instead of having one perspective from which to explore coaching skills there is a traditional approach, an interactive approach and a formless approach.
